Dr. Fredrick Obiefuna
Senior Lecturer
Since joining the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Nigeria, I have actively taught urologic surgery, conducted research and built up a very well subscribed urology service. My team and I have also performed a large number and variety of urologic surgical procedures. These include minimal access surgery for benign and malignant bladder outlet obstruction of prostatic origin and other open procedures. In collaboration with an Otorhinolaryngology colleague, we have developed a two team approach to substituted urethral reconstruction using buccal mucosal grafts. My administrative activities include departmental examination coordination and a review of Departmental Residency Training guidelines amongst others. I have served as a core facilitator of the Basic Surgical Skills course since its inception in 2006. My research activities have yielded a book chapter on urologic trauma and several journal articles. My research interests are in urologic oncology especially the prostate, urethral reconstruction, surgically correctable hypertension of adrenal origin and minimal invasive management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.
