Born on Wednesday September 16, 1970 at Onitsha Anambra State, Nigeria, Okechukwu started his primary education in 1976 in Ibadan, Oyo State and completed same in Lagos State, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate in 1982. His secondary education was at the Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene Akwa Ibom State from 1982 to 1988. He graduated in 1988 when he obtained the West African Senior School Certificate (SSC), one of the pioneer set for this Certificate. His Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Nigeria Nsukka/Enugu Campus was from 1988 to 1995. He obtained the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1995. His One-year internship was at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in 1995/96. His one-year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) was undertaken in 1996/97 in Cross River State. He thereafter undertook postgraduate medical education with the West African College of Surgeons in 1998 and obtained the Fellowship of the College (FWACS) in April 2006. He was appointed a Consultant Plastic Surgeon by Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Abia State from October 2006 to March 2008. From April 2008, he was appointed Lecturer-1 with the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria. He has served in the department as, inter alia, Undergraduate Training Coordinator 2013-2017, Undergraduate Postings Coordinator/ Exams Officer 2010-2013. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in October 2014. He has authored several articles in Peer-review Journals, as well as contributed chapters to a number of textbooks.
