Martin E. Ohanu was born on 11^th March 1957, to Late Chief H.U.

Ohanu (former Ast. Commissioner of Police Eastern region) and Late Lolo D.E. Ohanu both of Nguru in Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State. After his education and NYSC he worked as medical officer in Aladinma and Uchendu hospitals in Owerri. Him and Florence got married in 1984 and have four children; Uzoamaka, Onyekachi, Ukachi and Eberechi. As an honourary consultant in University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, he was Chairman of Commercialized Laboratory Services for five years. And following a terrible departmental fire disaster he became head of department after  being promoted to Senior Lecturer, for 2004/2005 and 2005/2006  sessions. He is now Chairman Avian Flu/emerging/re-emerging viral diseases.
